Born and brought up in London, Madeleine Townsend founded her own firm in 1990 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in the south east of England, having been a full partner with a four-office firm of solicitors in East Sussex. Madeleine holds a Current Practising Certificate as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, and a Bachelor of Law (Honours) Degree from the University of Warwick. Madeleine has worked as a Family Lawyer for over 30 years, and so can bring a wealth of human as well as legal experience to your case.
Madeleine is a long-established member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) and subscribes to its code of conduct. She is a member of the Kent Regional Committee and is a past member of the National Legal Aid Committee upon which she served for ten years.
Madeleine was one of the first solicitors in England and Wales to be accredited by the Legal Aid Board in August 1994, to the quality approved Legal Aid Franchise as a Matrimonial Specialist. The Legal Aid Board has now evolved into the Legal Services Commission, and Madeleine is franchised as a Specialist Help Provider in Family Law.
Madeleine is one of the first solicitors to qualify as a Collaborative Family Practitioner in the UK, and is keen to develop this new holistic way of working with families.
Madeleine was one of the first Family Law Solicitors to be accredited by the Law Society in their January 1999 initiative, The Law Society Family Law Panel.
Family Law itself is becoming divided into a number of sub-specialities. Concentrating on family breakdown in the context of money, property, business and insolvency disputes, Madeleine and her firm provides specialist advice on all aspects of the Law of family breakdown (apart from Public Law childcare work).
Married to a busy NHS Hospital Consultant, Madeleine lives with her husband and 3 Golden Retriever dogs on the Kent/East Sussex borders. |
